State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi Speaks by Phone With Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin

On 5 May, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi took a phone call from Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin of Tajikistan.

Wang pointed out that at the critical moment of COVID-19 response, this timely conversation speaks to China and Tajikistan's brotherly friendship and solidarity against difficulties. Tajikistan is China's good neighbor and good friend and the Chinese people from various sectors had started to provide medical supplies to Tajikistan even before the disease was reported there. As Tajikistan is battling the virus, China is stepping up its coordinating work for sending a joint working group to Tajikistan, arranging medical experts to hold a video conference with Tajikistan at an early date and providing another batch of medical supplies. Wang expressed China's readiness to expand trade with Tajikistan to help it maintain steady economic growth. He thanked Tajikistan for facilitating the life and work of Chinese citizens there and assured Muhriddin that the legitimate rights and interests of Tajik citizens in China will be protected as always. As a comprehensive strategic partner, China will always stand with Tajikistan and together we will see COVID-19 defeated in Tajikistan.

Muhriddin spoke highly of the tremendous efforts of the Chinese government and people in the fight against COVID-19. He noted that China has established effective inter-agency mechanisms, made important achievements in its epidemic control, and provided assistance to other countries. He thanked China for its valuable support to meet Tajikistan's urgent need and promised strong measures to ensure the health and safety of Chinese citizens there. Tajikistan is ready to expand cooperation with China and take the comprehensive strategic partnership forward.
