Ambassador Zhang Jianwei Attends a Seminar Marking 20th Anniversary of ACD’s Founding

On December 18, 2022, Ambassador Zhang Jianwei attended a seminar commemorating the 20th anniversary of the founding of the Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD). Over 100 guests, including Pornchai Danvivathana, Secretary General of the ACD, diplomatic envoys of Indonesia, Vietnam, Laos and other countries to Kuwait, as well as teachers and students from Kuwait University, were present at the event.

During his speech at the seminar, Ambassador Zhang said, since its inception in 2002, the ACD has been committed to promoting exchanges and cooperation among Asian countries and demonstrated growing capabilities to create the Asian Community and build consensus among Asian countries, adding that as an ACD founding member, China has always supported and actively participated in the ACD process, and taken concrete actions to contribute its share to implementing the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development over the years. Especially during the past decade, with endeavors to ensure and improve people’s wellbeing while pursuing development,China eradicated extreme poverty and lifted nearly 100 million rural peopleout of poverty, realizing its poverty reduction goal from the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development 10 years ahead of schedule.

Ambassador Zhang pointed out that President Xi Jinping proposed the Global Development Initiative (GDI) that seeks to expedite the implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in a push for stronger, greener and healthier global development. Also, the 20th CPC National Congress has made it clear that China will remain committed to the path of peaceful development, pursue sustainable development and harmonious coexistence between human beings and nature. Looking ahead, China is ready to work with other Asian countries to translate challenges into opportunities and create in Asia a peaceful, stable and harmonious environment featuring equality, mutual trust and win-win cooperation, so as to build a community with a shared future for mankind. In this way, we will make new contributions to achieving the goals set in the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
