Chinese Ambassador to the Republic of Congo Guan Jian Attends the Banquet Held by President Denis Sassou-Nguesso to Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Establishment of China-Congo Diplomatic Relationship

On February 22, 2014, Denis Sassou-Nguesso, President of the Republic of Congo, held a grand banquet in the presidential palace to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relationship between the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Congo. H.E. Guan Jian, Chinese Ambassador to the Republic of Congo and Congolese Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Basile Ikouébé delivered speeches on behalf of their respective sides. Over 300 people attended the banquet, including President of Congolese Senate, Cabinet Minister, principal officials of Congolese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, foreign diplomatic envoys to the Republic of Congo, representatives of the Chinese Embassy, China-funded institutions and Chinese community in the Republic of Congo and others.

In his speech, Ambassador Guan reviewed the fruits of cooperation that have been yielded in various fields since the establishment of China-Congo diplomatic relationship 50 years ago. He pointed out that the two peoples have stood together, shared weal and woe and jointly composed a historical chapter of unity and friendship, making the China-Congo cooperation a model of the South-South cooperation. He emphasized that President Xi Jinping paid a state visit to the Republic of Congo last year and President Sassou will also pay a state visit to China this year. The cooperation between the two countries have stepped into a brand new stage of development and the prospect of cooperation is surely to become broader and deeper. Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Basile Ikouébé spoke highly of the equal and mutually beneficial cooperation between China and the Republic of Congo in the past 50 years. He pointed out that China-Africa cooperation partnership has created a new mode for cooperation between countries and promoted Africa's economic development through mutually beneficial and win-win cooperation. He enumerated cooperation results made by the two countries in high-level mutual visits, economic and trade cooperation, culture and education and other fields, and emphasized that China-Congo cooperation is helping the Republic of Congo make changes and march towards prosperity. During the banquet, President Sassou conversed friendly with Ambassador Guan and toasted for China-Congo friendship several times.

Before the banquet, President Sassou, Ambassador Guan and distinguished guests from China and the Republic of Congo jointly attended the "Photo Exhibition of the 50th Anniversary of the Establishment of China-Congo Diplomatic Relationship", which was co-organized by the Chinese Embassy in the Republic of Congo and the Foreign Ministry of the Republic of Congo. In the morning, Ambassador Guan and Congolese Minister of Post and Telecommunications Thierry Moungalla jointly attended the release ceremony of the commemorative stamps of the50th anniversary of the establishment of China-Congo diplomatic relationship and delivered speeches.
