Newly-appointed Chinese Ambassador to Syria Wang Kejian Presents Credentials to President Bashar al-Assad of Syria

On June 9, 2014, H.E. Wang Kejian, the newly-appointed Chinese Ambassador to Syria presented credentials to President Bashar al-Assad of Syria at People’s Palace (presidential palace) in Damascus.

President Bashar welcomed Ambassador Wang assuming the new office, and said that Syria attaches high importance to developing relations with China and hopes to witness the further development of Syria-China friendly cooperation. Bashar thanked China for its consistent support to Syria during the Syrian crisis, and stressed that Syria sticks to the political settlement and actively promotes the national reconciliation and anti-terrorism process.

Ambassador Wang Kejian said that China values its friendly relations with Syria and supports Syria to resume the exercise of sovereignty over the Golan Heights at an early date on the basis of relevant UN resolutions and “Land for Peace” principle. China pays high attention to the situation in Syria, and holds that relevant parties in Syria should cease fire and curb violence as soon as possible, focus on pushing forward political process and seek political settlement through negotiations of the Geneva II Conference. The Chinese side stands ready to continue its efforts in promoting political settlement for the Syrian issue and alleviating the suffering of the Syrian people.

Ambassador Wang Kejian arrived in Syria to assume the new office on April 30, and presented the copy of credentials to Executive Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Muqdad of Syira on May 7.
