China's San Francisco Consulate General Hosts 65th National Day Reception

On September 24th, 2014, Consul General and Mrs. Yuan Nansheng celebrated the 65th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China with a grand reception at Hilton San Francisco Union Square.

The reception was attended by Mayor of the City and County of San Francisco Ed Lee, Democratic Caucus Chair in the California State Assembly Philip Ting, California State Assembly Republican Leader-Elect Kristin Olsen, California State Assemblymember Adam Gray, San Francisco Supervisors Eric Mar, Scott Wiener and Katy Tang, San Jose City Councilmember Kansen Chu, San Leandro City Vice Mayor Benny Lee and City Councilmember Diana Souza, San Francisco Consular Corps, leaders of Chinese and American business communities, representatives from local Chinese communities and Chinese Students and Scholars Associations, along with friends from various sectors.

Consul General Yuan gave brief remarks highlighting the accomplishments China has achieved since the founding of the People's Republic and the extraordinary journey that China and the U.S. have gone through since they established diplomatic relationship 35 years ago and amicable and fruitful ties between China and the US states within San Francisco Consular District. He reaffirmed the consulate's commitment to working with American friends for the shared endeavor to building a new model of major country relations between the two great nations.

Mayor Lee reviewed San Francisco's special connections with China and the important role of the city in contributing to the development and prosperity of the two nations. He said the he was looking forward to seeing more robust economic, trade, cultural and people-to-people ties between the US and China through San Francisco as an important gateway. He announced October 1, 2014 as "Chinese-American Friendship and Heritage Day" in San Francisco.

Governor of the State of California Jerry Brown, Member of the US House of Representatives Barbara Lee, Mike Honda and Eric Swalwell, Speaker of the California State Assembly Toni Atkins, member of the California State Assembly Paul Fong, and Board Member of State Board of Equalization Betty Yee and other US politicians congratulated China's National Day by issuing congratulatory letters, recognitions, greetings to the consulate.

Guests enjoyed a special musical performance by singers and musicians from China.
