His Excellency Wang Baodong, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the Kingdom of Tonga Presents Copy of Credentials

On May 31st, 2017, His Excellency Wang Baodong, new ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the Kingdom of Tonga met with Mr. Vainga Tone, Secretary of Foreign Affairs of Tonga and presented copy of Credentials.

Secretary Tone warmly welcomed Ambassador Wang to Tonga. He said that Tonga values its friendly relations with China. Since the establishment of diplomatic ties, the bilateral relations have witnessed fruitful results with close contacts between the governments and the parliaments, smooth progress in the mutually beneficial cooperation projects and active people-to-people and cultural exchanges. China recently hosted the "Belt and Road" Forum for International Cooperation successfully. It demonstrated China's goodwill to achieve common development with the other countries in the world and Tonga was happy to be part of it. Tonga remains committed to the One China principle and is ready to work with the Chinese side to deepen exchanges and cooperation in various fields, strengthen communication and coordination in the multilateral affairs and move forward the relations between China and Tonga.

Ambassador Wang said that he had visited Tonga as a member of a Chinese government delegation in the year when the diplomatic ties were established between China and Tonga and is greatly honored to be appointed Chinese Ambassador to Tonga. Ambassador emphasized that China attaches importance to its relationship with Tonga. Since the establishment of the diplomatic ties, the bilateral relations have achieved tangible results in extensive areas and brought benefits to the two countries and two peoples and the Oceania region at large. The decision of the Chinese and Tongan leaders in 2014 to establish a strategic partnership featuring mutual respect and common development opened a new page in the bilateral relationship. China welcomes Tonga' active participation in the "Belt and Road" Initiative and appreciates Tonga's position to uphold One China principle. As the new ambassador to Tonga, he is looking forward to making joint efforts with the Tongan side to push for further development of the China-Tonga relations.

Ambassador Wang arrived in Tonga on May 30 and was greeted by Hon Tu'ivakano, Deputy Secretary and Chief of Protocol of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tonga, staff of the Chinese Embassy and representatives of the Chinese community and Chinese institutions in Tonga.
