H.E. Ambassador Huang Zheng Meets with Honorable Salvador Iriarte, Iso Nahnken of Nett

On March 24, 2020, Ambassador Huang Zheng met with the Honorable Salvador Iriarte, Iso Nahnken of Nett. Counselor Zhang Weitao, Deputy Chief of Mission, among others, attended the meeting.

Ambassador Huang comprehensively introduced the series of firm and timely actions the Chinese government has taken to tackle the COVID-19 outbreak. In face of the epidemic, President Xi Jinping has given instructions and mapped out plans in person. In China, the positive trend in preventing and controlling the epidemic has been constantly consolidated and expanded, and the restoration of normal production and everyday life has been quickened. Since the outbreak of the epidemic, the Chinese government has acted in an open, transparent and responsible manner, and has been actively engaging in international cooperation in the spirit of mutual assistance. Recently, China and the Pacific island countries, which have diplomatic relations with China, held a video conference to share experience and information on fighting COVID-19. It brought together officials and health experts from the Pacific island countries,whom were grateful and evaluated highly of the conference. Ambassador Huang emphasized that China is willing to provide FSM with more support and help within her capability, to work with FSM to safeguard global public health, and to jointly build a Community with a Shared Future for Humanity as well as a Community of Common Health for Mankind. Ambassador Huang pointed out that One-China Principle is the fundamental cornerstone and bedrock of the China-FSM Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. He believes FSM federal government will always uphold the One-China Principle during and after the prevention and controlling of COVID-19, be on high alert for political play-up or manipulation of Taiwan authority with the attempt to pursue the so-called Taiwan independence by taking advantage of the epidemic, and that the FSM will unswervingly safeguard the political foundation of friendly China-FSM cooperation in various fields.

The Honorable Iriarte thanked Ambassador Huang for his detailed introduction and extended his warm congratulations to the Chinese people upon the conspicuous achievements in the fight against the COVID-19 outbreak under the leadership of Chinese President Xi Jinping. China made enormous sacrifices to safeguard global public health, and the island countries sincerely appreciate China's timely help, guidance and support, he said. FSM hopes to strengthen its cooperation with China to defeat COVID-19 epidemic and makes joint efforts to build a Community with a Shared Future for Humanity. The Honorable Iriarte expressed his willingness to wield his unique influence as Iso Nahnken of Nett to widely publicize China's effort, urge FSM leaders and officials to adhere to the One-China Principle, and build up public support for the development of China-FSM Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
