Ambassador Dr.Zhao Yongchen Attends the Handover Ceremony of Medical Supplies to Grenada Donated by Chinese Government

On July 8, 2020, a handover ceremony of medical supplies donated by the Chinese government was held at the Chinese Embassy in Grenada. H.E. Dr. Zhao Yongchen, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to Grenada handed over a batch of Medical supplies to the Government of Grenada on behalf of the Government of the People's Republic of China. The donation includes 6800 rapid test kits. Hon. Peter David, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Nicolas Steele, Minister for Health attended the ceremony.

Ambassador Zhao Yongchen said, the Special Vice-Ministerial Meeting between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of China and the Caribbean Countries Having Diplomatic Relations with China on COVID-19 was held successfully in May, delegates reached important consensus on strengthening cooperation in epidemic prevention and control and jointly safeguarding global public health security. At that meeting, Vice Minister Zheng Zeguang, on behalf of the Chinese Government, announced to donate a batch of medical supplies to Caribbean countries. Today's donation ceremony is to implement the promise. As always, China firmly supports and works with Grenada's fight against epidemic. It is believed that the batch of rapid test kits will help Grenada resume work and production as well as safeguard international travel safety after border opening. China stands ready to work with Grenada and all other countries to jointly build a community of common health for mankind and strive for the ultimate victory in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic.

On behalf of Prime Minister Dr. Rt. Hon. Keith Mitchell and the government and people of Grenada, Hon. Peter David expressed deepest gratitude to the government and people of the People's Republic of China. China is providing tremendous assistance to Grenada. He is looking forward to continuously deepening cooperation with China in various fields and promote the in-depth development of friendly relations between two sides.

Hon. Nicolas Steele stated that, though this looks like a repetitive function, the donation is very valuable. A friend in need is a friend in deed. China always remains a true friend of Grenada, not only in this challenging period but also in good times. The bilateral cooperation is growing from strength to strength. On behalf of the whole medical workers in Grenada, he expressed his gratitude to the Chinese side for the full support and assistance. He also, on behalf of the Ministry of Education, expressed his gratitude to Chinese government for taking good care of the Grenadian students in China, who are all safe. The Grenadian government and people firmly believe that China is Grenada's the most reliable and strongest ally.

After the ceremony, Ambassador Zhao Yongchen and Hon. Peter David jointly signed a handover certificate.
