China and the ROK Hold the Ninth High-level Strategic Dialogue Between the Foreign Ministries

On December 23, 2021, Vice Foreign Minister Le Yucheng and First Vice Foreign Minister of the Republic of Korea (ROK) Choi Jong Kun held the Ninth High-level Strategic Dialogue Between the Foreign Ministries via video link. The two sides had an in-depth exchange of views on various topics such as international and regional situations, respective foreign policies, and China-ROK relations.

Both sides believe that amid increasing factors of instability and uncertainty in international and regional situations, China and the ROK should enhance cooperation, jointly fight against COVID-19 and facilitate and protect the stable and smooth functioning of international industrial and supply chains. Both sides agreed to reinforce cooperation on tackling climate change and other global issues and make positive contributions to improving the global governance system.

The two sides spoke highly of each other's development achievements and agreed that the development of our two countries provides each other with opportunities and reinforces each other. China congratulated the ROK on becoming one of the developed countries. China is pleased to see the ROK play a constructive role in international and regional affairs. The ROK congratulated China on achieving the first centenary goal of building a moderately prosperous society in all respects. It expects China to maintain a sound momentum of development and play a larger part in promoting world peace, stability and prosperity. The ROK reiterated its active support for China's hosting of the Beijing Olympic Winter Games, and wishes it a great success.

The two sides made positive comments on the outcomes of China-ROK relations, and held that bilateral relations enjoy a solid foundation, enormous potential and broad prospects. Both sides agreed to take the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties next year as an opportunity to carry out closer high-level exchanges, deepen practical cooperation, and facilitate dynamic people-to-people exchanges, to advance China-ROK relations with the times and achieve new progress.

The two sides discussed the situation on the Korean Peninsula and agreed to strengthen coordination and cooperation and jointly promote the political resolution of the Korean Peninsula issue. Both sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern.
