On May 23, 2022, Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu held talks with visiting United Nations (UN) High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet in Guangzhou. Ma Zhaoxu welcomed Bachelet's visit to China, saying that China will practice true multilateralism and is willing to strengthen dialogue and cooperation with the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights on the basis of equality and mutual respect to jointly contribute to the development of international human rights.

Bachelet said, she expects to strengthen contacts and exchanges with China, enhance mutual trust and understanding, and promote and protect human rights through her visit.
