China and Singapore Hold a Senior Officials' Meeting for the Series Meetings under Bilateral Cooperation Mechanism

On October 14, 2022, Assistant Foreign Minister Wu Jianghao and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Trade and Industry of Singapore Gabriel Lim Meng Liang held a virtue senior officials' meeting for the series meetings to be held under the China-Singapore cooperation mechanism.

Wu Jianghao said that China and Singapore are friendly neighbors and partners for high-quality cooperation, with sound development of bilateral relations. Recalling the meeting President Xi Jinping had with President Halimah Yacob in February this year when he was in China for the opening ceremony of the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022, Wu Jianghao pointed out that the meeting has provided new strategic guidance for bilateral relations, and the two sides have made new and steady progress in pursuing high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, advancing the building of the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor, and actively expanding cooperation in digital economy, green development and other areas. Singapore is also deeply involved in the rollout of China's regional development strategies and China's efforts to foster a new development paradigm, setting a fine example for regional countries.

Wu Jianghao stressed that in two days’ time, the Communist Party of China (CPC) will convene its 20th National Congress to take stock of the major achievements and valuable experience China has gained in modernization drive, and to draw a blueprint for China's future development. This will generate new opportunities for China’s cooperation with neighboring countries. In this context, it is highly necessary for the two sides ensure the success of this year's series meetings in exploring new approaches to cooperation and new pathways of development, so as to contribute to faster, better and upgraded development of China-Singapore cooperation.

Gabriel Lim wished the 20th National Congress of the CPC a complete success, and noted that Singapore-China cooperation has not only boosted the development of the two countries, it can also be held up as a role model for cooperation at both regional and global levels. He expressed the confidence that the successful convocation of the series meetings will further deepen mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries in the post-pandemic era, and drive economic recovery and development in the region. He noted that Singapore has high expectations for the meetings.
