Special Representative of the Chinese Government on Eurasian Affairs Li Hui Holds Meetings and Talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Others

On May 26, 2023, Special Representative of the Chinese Government on Eurasian Affairs Li Hui paid a visit to Russia, and held meetings and talks respectively with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, and Deputy Foreign Ministers Rudenko Andrey Yurevich and Galuzin Mikhail Yuryevich. The two sides exchanged views on China-Russia relations, and a political settlement of the Ukraine crisis, among others.

The two sides agreed that President Xi Jinping’s successful visit to Russia not long ago has further deepened political mutual trust between the two sides, consolidated the political foundation and public support for lasting friendship between the two peoples, and injected new and strong impetus into the all-round practical cooperation between China and Russia. The two sides will fully implement the important common understanding reached between President Xi Jinping and President Vladimir Putin, further strengthen bilateral and multilateral strategic coordination and exchanges and cooperation in various fields, and constantly enrich China-Russia relations in the new era.

Li Hui said that on the issue of the Ukraine crisis, China always follows the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter, upholds an objective and just position, actively promotes talks for peace, decides its position based on the merits of the event, and always firmly stands on the side of peace and dialogue, and the right side of history. China will strengthen exchanges and dialogue with Russia and all other parties on the basis of China’s Position on the Political Settlement of the Ukraine Crisis, and make concrete efforts to the political settlement of the Ukraine crisis.

Russia appreciates China for its sincere wishes and concrete efforts to promote the peaceful settlement of the Ukraine crisis, speaks highly of the the four principles, joint efforts in four areas and three observations put forward by President Xi Jinping, and believes that China’s relevant principled position is conducive to the peaceful settlement of the crisis. Russia will continue to adhere to the direction of the political settlement and continue to strengthen communication and coordination with China.
