China and Bangladesh Hold the 12th Round of Diplomatic Consultation

On May 27, 2023, Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong co-chaired the 12th round of China-Bangladesh diplomatic consultation with Bangladeshi Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen in Dhaka.

Sun Weidong said that China and Bangladesh are traditional friendly neighbors and the two countries have always understood and supported each other. China has always given priority to developing friendly relations with Bangladesh in its neighborhood diplomacy, and firmly supports Bangladesh in pursuing a development path suited to its national conditions and safeguarding its sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity. China appreciates Bangladesh’s adherence to the one-China principle and believes that Bangladesh will continue to firmly support China on issues concerning China’s core interests, such as Taiwan, Tibet and Xinjiang.

Sun Weidong said that President Xi Jinping’s historic visit to Bangladesh in 2016 has charted the course for the development of bilateral relations. China is ready to work with Bangladesh to deepen the implementation of the important common understandings reached by the leaders of the two countries, strengthen high-level exchanges, seek synergies in development strategies, vigorously advance cooperation on the Belt and Road Initiative and major projects, and actively expand coordination and cooperation in various fields including economy, trade and investment, agriculture and fishery, disaster prevention and reduction, maritime affairs, people-to-people and cultural exchanges and multilateral affairs, so as to jointly realize the Chinese dream of great national rejuvenation and the dream of “Sonar Bangla”.

Masud Bin Momen thanked China for supporting Bangladesh in its fight against COVID-19 and its economic and social development. He said that Bangladesh and China enjoy frequent high-level exchanges and a solid foundation for bilateral relations. Bangladesh cherishes its traditional friendship with China and regards China as a reliable and important development partner. Bangladesh has always firmly pursued the one-China policy and stands ready to work with China to jointly advance Belt and Road cooperation, deepen cooperation in various fields and push forward sustained development of the Bangladesh-China strategic cooperative partnership.

The two sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of mutual interest and concern.
