Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Ming Attends Opening Ceremony of the Middle East Regional Development Forum

On January 24, 2017, Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Ming attended the opening ceremony of the Middle East Development Forum held at Peking University and delivered a speech.

Zhang Ming said that while promoting the political settlement of hotspot issues in the Middle East, the international community should also put more attention and actions to the development of the Middle East. Long-term peace can only be achieved when we promoting development and with development achieved, peace will have its fountainhead. Promoting peace through development can become the new exploration and new path for the international community to push forward the governance of the Middle East.

Zhang Ming pointed out that the Middle East has its unique natural endowment and advantages, and it can become an important force to advance globalization. China will jointly build the "Belt and Road" with Middle East countries, so as to contribute to the integration of the Middle East into the trend of world development. China will carry out pragmatic cooperation with Middle East countries to boost their industrialization process, and share opportunities with Middle East countries amid opening-up to achieve mutual benefit and win-win results.

Zhang Ming stressed that the world is undergoing important and profound changes and the Middle East is also facing opportunities to achieve peace and development. China will continue to be a firm builder of peace in the Middle East and a promoter of development in the region. China advocates promoting peace through development and is willing to be friends and partners with all countries in the Middle East in an inclusive manner as well as become a force for boosting peace and prosperity in the region.

President of Peking University Lin Jianhua, representative of Secretary-General of the League of Arab States Shafee, Special Presidential Representative for Relations with the Organization of the Islamic Conference and other International Islamic Organizations Popov Veniamin of Russia, diplomatic envoys of Russia and some Arab states in China, China's Special Envoy on the Middle East Issue, Ambassador for China-Arab States Cooperation Forum Affairs, and some of China's former ambassadors to the region, experts, scholars and others were present.
