Assistant Foreign Minister Chen Xiaodong Visits Iran

On March 6, 2019, Assistant Foreign Minister Chen Xiaodong visited Iran, during which he met with Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif of Iran.

Chen Xiaodong expressed that the Chinese side attaches importance to developing its relations with Iran, and is willing to make joint efforts with the Iranian side to advance the implementation of the important consensus reached by leaders of the two countries and promote the steady development of China-Iran cooperation. Attaching importance to Iran's role in regional affairs, the Chinese side stands ready to enhance communication and cooperation with the Iranian side to facilitate regional peace and stability.

Mohammad Javad Zarif expressed that the Iranian side appreciates and thanks the Chinese side for its consistent support and assistance to the Iranian side and is ready to meet each other halfway with the Chinese side to push forward Iran-China comprehensive strategic partnership. The Iranian side attaches great importance to the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative and is willing to actively participate in it. Speaking positively of the Chinese side's important role for regional peace and stability, the Iranian side is willing to strengthen communication and coordination with the Chinese side on relevant regional hotspot issues.

During his stay in Iran, Assistant Foreign Minister Chen Xiaodong also held the political consultation between the Chinese and Iranian Foreign Ministries with Deputy Foreign Minister Gholam-Reza Ansari and Assistant Foreign Minister and Director General for East Asia and Pacific at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mahmood Farazandeh of Iran.
