Vice Foreign Minister Kong Xuanyou Meets with Under Secretary-General for Legal Affairs and Legal Counsel of the United Nations (UN) Miguel de Serpa Soares

On April 24, 2019, Vice Foreign Minister Kong Xuanyou met with Under Secretary-General for Legal Affairs and Legal Counsel of the United Nations (UN) Miguel de Serpa Soares, who was in China for the Thematic Forum on Clean Silk Road of the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation.

Kong Xuanyou welcomed the attendance of Miguel de Serpa Soares at the thematic forum, saying that the Belt and Road Initiative and the UN 2030 sustainable development goals are highly compatible and enjoy broad prospects for future cooperation. Cooperation on the rule of law is an essential foundation project for the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative. The Chinese side is ready to strengthen communication with the UN on deepening the cooperation on the rule of law under the Belt and Road Initiative.

Miguel de Serpa Soares said the UN highly appreciates and supports the Belt and Road Initiative and is ready to carry out new practical cooperation with the Chinese side in law and other fields to jointly promote the construction of the Belt and Road Initiative.
