Assistant Foreign Minister Chen Xiaodong Meets with Hong Jin-wook, Director-General for African and Middle Eastern Affairs Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea (ROK)

On October 30, 2019, Assistant Foreign Minister Chen Xiaodong met at the Foreign Ministry with Hong Jin-wook, Director-General for African and Middle Eastern Affairs Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea (ROK), who was in China for China-ROK consultation on the Middle East affairs at departmental level.

Chen Xiaodong expressed, the Middle East currently faces many challenges and the direction of the situation is worrying. All parties should adhere to the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations and the basic norms governing international relations, and seek political solutions for regional issues that are fair, just, equitable and reasonable and accommodate interests of all parties, so as to help the region achieve, stability, development and revitalization. The Chinese side is willing to enhance communication and coordination with the ROK side in this regard.

Hong Jin-wook said, the ROK side highly appreciates China's efforts to safeguard regional security and stability and promote economic development, and hopes to work with the Chinese side to maintain close communication and coordination in the Middle East affairs.

On the same day, Director-General of the Department of West Asian and North African Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Wang Di held China-ROK consultation on the Middle East affairs at departmental level with Hong Jin-wook in Beijing, exchanging in-depth views on the current situation in the Middle East and relevant hotspot issues.
