Vice Foreign Minister Le Yucheng: Take the 20th Anniversary of the Founding of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization as an Opportunity to Open up New Prospects for Its Development

On January 21, 2021, Vice Foreign Minister Le Yucheng met with Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Vladimir Norov. They exchanged views on the development of the SCO.

Le Yucheng said that against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic and profound changes unseen in a century, the SCO member states upheld the "Shanghai Spirit" to enhance mutual support and reinforce cooperation in the fields of politics, security, economy, trade and culture, making significant contribution to the security, stability, development and prosperity of the region. China is ready to take the opportunity of the 20th anniversary of the founding of the SCO to work closely with its member states and the Secretariat, comprehensively deepen cooperation of the SCO in various fields, and open up new prospects for its development for the benefit of the countries and their people in the region.

Vladimir Norov congratulated China on the tremendous strategic outcomes of its fight against the pandemic. He speaks highly of China's active support for the pandemic response of the SCO member states, and thanks China for its strong support for the work of the Secretariat. Vladimir Norov said that the Secretariat will conscientiously fulfill its responsibilities, make the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the founding of the SCO a success by working with China and other member states, improve the cooperation in various fields, and make due contribution to the SCO's healthy and stable development.
