Fifth Session of China-Viet Nam Land Border Joint Committee Held in Beijing

From December 28 to 30, 2014, the fifth session of the China-Viet Nam Land Border Joint Committee was held in Beijing. As Chief Representatives of the two sides of the Joint Committee, Counselor Wang Wenli of the Department of Boundary and Ocean Affairs of the Foreign Ministry and Deputy Head Nguyen Anh Dung of the National Border Committee of the Foreign Ministry of Viet Nam respectively led a delegation to attend the session. Present at the session were representatives of such departments as foreign affairs, national defense, public security, ports and water resources as well as local governments of related provinces and regions in border areas of the two countries.

Both sides reviewed and summarized the overall situation of the Joint Committee in promoting China-Viet Nam land boarder management and cooperation in the past year, spoke positively of the good situation of clear and stable land boundaries as well as friendly cooperation in the border areas enjoyed by the two countries at present, and exchanged in-depth views and reached broad consensus on such issues as border management and control and law enforcement cooperation in border areas between the two countries, border port opening and management, cross-border bridge construction, crackdowns on illegal immigration, illegal residence and illegal employment, and smuggling in areas with no customs offices. The two sides discussed and decided the work plan for the Joint Committee in 2015 and signed the minutes of the meeting.

During the session, Assistant Foreign Minister Liu Jianchao met with key members of the Vietnamese delegation.
