The 14th Meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on China-India Border Affairs Held in Beijing

On July 29, 2019, the 14th Meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on China-India Border Affairs was held in Beijing. The meeting was co-chaired by Director General of the Department of Boundary and Oceanic Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Hong Liang and Joint Secretary of the East Asia Division of the Ministry of External Affairs Naveen Srivastava of India. Representatives from the both countries' authorities of foreign affairs, national defense, immigration and local affairs, were present.

The meeting was going on in a friendly, candid and practical atmosphere. The two sides spoke positively of the situation in the border areas of the two countries since the last meeting, exchanged in-depth views on border control issues and discussed specific measures for cooperation in the border areas. Both sides reiterated that they will, in accordance with the spirit of the consensus of the leaders of the two countries, proceed from the overall perspective of development and cooperation, further intensify communication and coordination, actively promote consultation on border negotiations for early harvests, and properly manage border-related issues, so as to jointly maintain peace and stability of the border areas.
