On July 11, 2023, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs Wang Yi attended in Beijing the opening ceremony of the Embassy of Solomon Islands in China, and jointly unveiled the nameplate of the embassy with Prime Minister of Solomon Islands Manasseh Sogavare.
Wang Yi extended on behalf of China warm congratulations on the opening of the Embassy of Solomon Islands in China, saying that Solomon Islands, by making the political decision to establish diplomatic relations with China, has stood on the side of international justice, the right side of history, and also the side of future development for Solomon Islands and its people. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, the exchanges between China and Solomon Islands have moved forward in all aspects, vigorously promoted the development of Solomon Islands, and brought tangible benefits to the people of Solomon Islands. China is glad to see the historic breakthrough in China-Solomon Islands relations.
Wang Yi said that President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare jointly announced on Monday the establishment of a comprehensive strategic partnership featuring mutual respect and common development for a new era, opening up a new chapter in the history of bilateral cooperation and charting the course for the development of bilateral relations. The official opening of the Embassy of Solomon Islands in China is another important milestone in the development of China-Solomon Islands relations. Wang Yi expressed his belief that the embassy will become a bond between the two peoples and a bridge for China-Solomon Islands relations. China stands ready to work with Solomon Islands to well implement the important common understandings reached by the leaders of the two countries, and jointly set a benchmark for high-level mutual trust and high-quality cooperation between China and Pacific island countries.
Manasseh Sogavare said that since the establishment of diplomatic relations nearly four years ago, bilateral relations have emerged more mature, and bilateral cooperation has been expanding in breadth and depth. Solomon Islands has actively participated in Belt and Road cooperation, and China has become the largest trading partner of Solomon Islands, providing Solomon Islands with selfless assistance in its fight against the pandemic. Solomon Islands will unswervingly grow its relations with China, remains firmly committed to the one-China principle, and believes that Taiwan is an unalienable part of China's territory.
