On September 19, 2023, Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu met with U.S. Acting Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland at the latter's request on the sidelines of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The two sides had a candid exchange of views on China-U.S. relations and international and regional issues of mutual interest and concern. Ambassador of China to the United States Xie Feng attended the meeting.
Ma Zhaoxu said that stabilizing and improving China-U.S. relations is in alignment with the common interests of the two countries and the expectations of the international community. The two sides should strengthen dialogue, properly manage differences, advance cooperation, and implement the important consensus reached between the two heads of state at the Bali meeting.
Victoria Nuland said that the United States is ready to continuously strengthen communication, dialogue and cooperation with China, manage differences in a responsible manner, and remain committed to the steady development of U.S.-China relations.
