Ma Zhaoxu Talks about Second Round of Iranian Nuclear Talks in Almaty

2013/04/05

On April 5, 2013, Ma Zhaoxu, head of the Chinese delegation to the Second Round of Almaty Talks on the Iranian nuclear issue and Assistant Foreign Minister, said that China will work together with all parties concerned to seek a political solution to the Iranian nuclear problem.

In an interview with Chinese media before the opening of the talks, Ma said that in the Almaty talks between the six world powers (the United States, Britain, France, Russia, China and Germany, known as P5+1) and Iran this February, a first step was taken in reopening serious negotiations on the Iranian nuclear issue. Then in March, nuclear experts from these countries met in Istanbul, Turkey and discussed the details. These talks have increased understanding among the participating countries.

As the dialogues and negotiations are now in the deep water area, Ma hoped that all sides should continue to make concerted efforts, adopt a flexible and pragmatic approach, accommodate each other's concerns, and take concrete trust-building steps at an early date, so as to consolidate what has been achieved in the dialogues and safeguard peace and stability.

Ma said that China, by adhering to an objective, fair and responsible position and sparing no efforts to encourage peaceful negotiations, has played a constructive role in maintaining and promoting talks. China will continue to work with relevant parties to seek a political solution to the Iran nuclear issue.
