Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi Meets with Members of the First Hong Kong University Students Summer Camp

On July 28, 2011, Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met with the members of the First Hong Kong University Students Summer Camp at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Foreign Minister Yang extended a warm welcome to the visiting students of Hong Kong. He urged them to deepen their understanding on China's diplomacy and national conditions through their visit to the mainland to support the country's diplomatic cause in a more active manner and love the motherland more.

Foreign Minister Yang said that China suffered tremendous bullying of the big powers in modern times. China has finally stood proudly in the family of nations after the founding of new China and has got rid of "weak-nation diplomacy" and "diplomacy of humiliation". Foreign Minister Yang introduced the great achievements China has made in diplomacy over the years and the diplomatic work of the ministry in 2011. He said China will continue to pursue an independent foreign policy of peace, unswervingly follow the path of peaceful development, mutual benefit and win-win result and contribute to the building of a moderately prosperous society and the building of a harmonious world with lasting peace and common prosperity.

Foreign Minister Yang said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to actively support Hong Kong in its foreign exchanges and cooperation, make the best efforts to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Hong Kong compatriots in other countries and strive to create more favorable external environments and conditions for Hong Kong's prosperity and stability.

Foreign Minister Yang lastly encouraged the students to study hard, engage in active social practice, and strive to develop themselves into useful members for the building of Hong Kong and the motherland.

The First Hong Kong University Students Summer Camp was organized by the Commissioner's Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Hong Kong SAR and Hong Kong Youth Association. There were nearly 60 students from 10 universities in Hong Kong including the University of Hong Kong, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and Hong Kong University of Science & Technology attending the camp.
