On April 3, 2023, Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu met with Director General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) António Vitorino. The two sides exchanged views on China-IOM cooperation and global migration governance, among others.
Ma Zhaoxu said that China attaches importance to the status and role of the IOM in global migration governance and appreciates its positive contribution to promoting the safe and orderly flow of migrants around the world. China stands ready to strengthen cooperation with the IOM to jointly improve global migration governance, implement the Global Development Initiative (GDI) and promote the building of a human community with a shared future.
Vitorino thanked China for its strong support for the IOM and appreciated China's achievements in and contributions to such areas as climate response and poverty alleviation. He expressed support for the GDI and looked forward to deepening practical cooperation with China to jointly contribute to achieving the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
