In 2002, China continued its active and pragmatic activities in the crime prevention and criminal justice field in the UN.

From 16-25 April, the 11th session of the UN Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice met in Vienna. Chinese Ambassador of the permanent mission Zhang Yan headed the Chinese delegation. The session deliberated on the UN crime prevention and standard and criteria of formal justice, international cooperation in striking at the cross-country crime, enhanced cooperation in countering terrorism. The Chinese delegation made statements under the agenda items and briefed the attendees on the main achievements gained in crime justice reform in recent years, and elaborated on China's position on the issues to be taken into account in criminal justice reform in a given country.
