The Chinese Government Signed the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the Sale of Children, Child Prostitution and Child Pornography

On September 6, 2000, Ambassador Wang Yingfan of China's Permanent Mission to the United Nations signed the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the Sale of Children, Child Prostitution and Child Pornography at the UN Headquarters on behalf of the Chinese Government in New York.

The Protocol was endorsed by Resolution 54/263 of the General Assembly of the United Nations on May 25, 2000 and is then open to be signed by all the signatories and acceding parties of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Six countries signed the Protocol to date. The Protocol has not entered into force as no country has ratified it yet.

China is a signatory to the Convention on the Rights of the Child. That the Chinese Government signed the Protocol during the UN Millenium Summit again testifies to the great importance the Chinese Government attaches to protecting the rights of children.
