State Councillor Tang Jiaxuan Holds Talks with the Joint Delegation of The Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC)

On the mornign of July 6, 2004, State Councillor Tang Jiaxuan held talks at Diaoyutai State Guest Hotel with the visiting joint delegation of Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC). The members of the GCC's delegation include Finance Minister of Kuwait Al-Nouri, Finance and Industrial Minister of State Affairs of the United Arab Emirates Kharbash, Minister of Finance and National Economy of the Kingdom of Bahrain Saif, Finance Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Al-Assaf, Minister of National Economy of the Sultan State of Amen Macki, Finance Minister of the State of Qatar Kamal and GCC Secretary General Attiyah. Both sides exchanged broad and in-depth views on further strengthening relations between China, the GCC, and its member states as well as other issues of common interest.

Tang indicated that the GCC is an important regional organization, and China and the GCC member states have maintained sound relations and support and coordinate with each other on many significant international and regional issues. China thanked the GCC member states for their adherence to the one-China policy and resolute support to China on the human rights issue and other questions. In recent years, the friendly cooperative relations between the two sides have developed rapidly, with strong economic mutual complementarity, huge potentials and bright prospects for cooperation. China would like to work along with the GCC member states to make unremitting efforts for the continuous enhancement of friendly and mutual beneficial cooperation between the two sides in all areas.

The GCC's delegation noted that the council attaches great importance to developing relations with China. This joint visit by 6 finance ministers of the GCC member states and its secretary general is a great event in the history of friendly relations between the two sides and it is believed that this visit will further consolidate and promote friendly, cooperative relations between the two sides in politics, economy and other areas.

Both sides also exchanged views on the issues related to Iraq and Middle East.
