On August 31, 2020, Director-General of the Department of Arms Control of the Foreign Ministry Fu Cong met with Rafael Mariano Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), at the United Nations Office at Vienna. Both sides exchanged views on issues including cooperation between China and the IAEA and the Iranian nuclear issue.

The two sides agreed to further facilitate cooperation in a wide range of fields including nuclear energy and the application of nuclear technology, to jointly contribute to the cause of global sustainable development. They also emphasized that the consensus reached between the IAEA and Iran on the safeguards should be effectively implemented to promote a political settlement of the Iranian nuclear issue.
