China and Israel Hold a Video Consultation on the Iranian Nuclear Issue

2020-09-24 14:53

On 24 September 2020, Fu Cong, Director General of the Department of Arms Control of the Foreign Ministry, held a video consultation with Joshua Zarka, Deputy Director General for Strategic Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel, exchanging views on the Iranian nuclear issue.

Fu Cong stressed, the withdrawal of the United States (US) from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on the Iranian nuclear issue and its employment of illegal unilateral sanctions to prevent other sides from fulfilling the agreement has accelerated the current tensions in the Iranian nuclear issue. As the US has withdrawn from the JCPOA, it is not entitled to demand the Security Council to invoke a snapback mechanism on Iran, and its unilateral declaration of the Security Council's re-imposition has no legal effect. The Chinese side will continue to firmly uphold the authority and effectiveness of the JCPOA and the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2231.
