2010-05-27 00:00

The Chinese Government has always attached importance to the humanitarian problems caused by landmines. China fully understands and always supports the international efforts in resolving the problems.

Although China is not a party to the Ottawa Convention, it appreciates the humanitarianism enshrined in the Convention and endorses the purposes and objectives of the Convention. China has attended meetings of the States Parties to the Ottawa Convention as an observer for many times, and has voted in favor of the resolutions entitled "Implementation of the Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti-personnel Mines and on Their Destruction" at the First Committee of the UN General Assembly in resent years, which fully demonstrates China's recognition for and attaches high attention to the important role of the Ottawa Convention. China will continue to actively participate in international de-mining assistance and cooperation through various effective and feasible means.

China is also ready to maintain communication and exchanges with States Parties to the Convention, and make its due contribution to resolving the humanitarian concerns caused by anti-personnel landmines.
