On February 23, 2022, Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu held the China-Brazil vice-ministerial videoconference on multilateral issues with Brazilian Deputy Foreign Minister.
Ma Zhaoxu congratulated Brazil on its formal assumption of responsibilities as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council in January this year. He said, China is ready to strengthen communication and coordination with Brazil on a wide range of multilateral affairs, including the Security Council, and jointly make positive efforts to safeguard world peace and promote common development.
The Brazilian side thanked China for supporting Brazil's bid for a seat as a non-permanent member of the Security Council, saying that the current global security situation is complex and challenging, and Brazil looks forward to deeper participation in the affairs of the United Nations and the Security Council, so as to make contributions to safeguarding world peace and security.
The two sides had an in-depth exchange of views on the current international situation, China-Brazil priorities in the multilateral field and hotspot issues of the Security Council. Both sides agreed to firmly practice multilateralism, support the United Nations and the Security Council in playing their due roles and promote the political settlement of hotspot issues. The two sides agreed to further strengthen coordination and cooperation in the United Nations and other multilateral bodies, and strengthen communication and support each other on issues of mutual concern.
