The Consultation on International Law and Dialogue on Maritime Law and Polar Affairs Between Chinese Foreign Ministry and French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs Held in Paris

On July 2, 2018, the Consultation on International Law and Dialogue on Maritime Law and Polar Affairs was held in Paris. Deputy Director-General of the Department of Treaty and Law of the Foreign Ministry Ma Xinmin and Deputy Director at the Legal Directorate of the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs Pierre Boussaroque of France exchanged in-depth views on important topics on international law and maritime law, such as the concept of a community with a shared future for mankind and international law, the use of force in self-defense against the non-state actors, the immunity of the diplomatic bag, the relevant legal matters related to the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, the Global Pact for the Environment, the follow-up negotiations of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, and the maintenance of marine biological diversity beyond areas of national jurisdiction and the negotiation on sustainable use of international instruments, the formulation of regulations on exploiting international seabed resources and sea level rise.

The two sides recognized unanimously that this consultation and dialogue further enhanced the mutual understanding of the two sides on the important international law issues. Both sides are willing to continue to strengthen the exchanges and cooperation in the international law field.
