Director-General of the Department of Treaty and Law of the Foreign Ministry Xu Hong Attends the International Law Week of the 73rd Session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly

From October 22 to 27, 2018, Director-General of the Department of Treaty and Law of the Foreign Ministry Xu Hong led a delegation to attend the International Law Week of the 73rd Session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly in New York, during which he participated in the deliberation on topics of the Report of the International Court of Justice held by the plenary meeting of the UN General Assembly and the Report of the International Law Commission held by the Sixth Committee of the UN General Assembly. He also attended informal meetings of Legal Advisers of the Foreign Ministries of various countries and expounded on the Chinese side's stance on relevant issues.

During the International Law Week, Xu Hong respectively took part in consultation of the Departments of Treaty and Law (Legal Advisers) of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and consultation of Director-Generals of the Departments of Treaty and Law (Legal Advisers) of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of BRICS, exchanging views on issues concerning the international law of common concern.

Xu Hong also met with Under-Secretary-General for Legal Affairs Miguel de Serpa Soares and Assistant Secretary-General for Legal Affairs Stephen Mathias of the UN, and met with Legal Advisers (Director-Generals of the Departments of Treaty and Law) of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs from Germany, Switzerland, Denmark, Israel, New Zealand and other countries and Legal Adviser of International Committee of the Red Cross, exchanging views on enhancing communication and cooperation in the area of international law.
