Vice Foreign Minister Luo Zhaohui Meets with Secretary for Administration and Justice of the Macao SAR Government Cheong Weng Chon

On December 1, 2020, Vice Foreign Minister Luo Zhaohui met with Secretary for Administration and Justice of the Macao SAR Government Cheong Weng Chon who came to Beijing to attend the annual consultations on Macao-related foreign affairs on treaty and law.

Luo Zhaohui said that since Macao's return to the motherland, there has been considerable progress in Macao-related foreign affairs on treaty and law, which has played an important role in implementing the "one country, two systems" policy and the Basic Law. The Department of Treaty and Law of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has kept close and effective communication and cooperation on related matters with the Secretariat for Administration and Justice of the Macao SAR. He hopes that the Macao SAR will continue to firmly uphold the constitutional order established by the Constitution and the Basic Law, enrich the "Chinese Governance" with successful practices of the "Macao's Governance", and push for new progress in Macao-related foreign affairs on treaty and law.

Luo Zhaohui said that the central conference on work related to overall law-based governance was successfully convened not long ago, which confirmed Xi Jinping Thought on the Rule of Law. One of the dimensions of this important Thought is to take a coordinated approach to promote the rule of law at home and in matters involving foreign parties, accelerate the strategic layout of the rule of law in matters involving foreign parties, and coordinate efforts to advance domestic and international governance. The work on Macao-related foreign affairs on treaty and law is an integral part of the rule of law in matters involving foreign parties. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to support the Macao SAR's international exchanges, assist with its building and improvement of international legal cooperation framework, promote the building of institutions and mechanisms, and tell successful stories of the implementation of "one country, two systems" in Macao.

Cheong Weng Chon introduced the Macao SAR Government's work on the treaty and law involving foreign parties, and appreciated the Foreign Ministry's strong support for the Macao SAR in Macao-related foreign affairs on treaty and law. He said that the Macao SAR will continue to resolutely implement the "one country, two systems" policy and the Basic Law, and further improve its Macao-related foreign affairs on treaty and law under the guidance and assistance of the Central Government.
