Director-General of the Department of Treaty and Law of the Chinese Foreign Ministry and His Russian Counterpart Hold a Video Consultation on International Law

On September 29, 2021, Director-General of the Department of Treaty and Law of the Foreign Ministry Jia Guide and Director of the Legal Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry Zagainov Evgeny Timofeevich held a video consultation on international law. Both sides agreed on the common position of China and Russia on upholding multilateralism and opposing unilateral sanctions and politicization of the COVID-19 origins tracing, among other issues. The cooperation on international law has become an important part of the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination for a new era. The two sides also had an in-depth exchange of views and reached a broad consensus on maritime law, the Arctic and Antarctic legal affairs, international rules-setting at the Sixth Committee of the United Nations General Assembly and other issues. Both sides agreed on the effectiveness of this consultation and believed that China and Russia need to further enhance exchanges and cooperation on international law, and join hands to safeguard the international system with the United Nations at its core and the international order underpinned by international law.
