Joint Communique Between the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Liberia on the Resumption of Diplomatic Relations

1. The Government of the People's Republic of China and the Interim Government of National Unity of the Republic of Liberia, in accordance with the principles of mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, mutual non-aggression, non-interference in each other's internal affairs, equality and mutual benefit and peaceful co-existence, have decided to resume diplomatic relations between their two countries as of August 10, 1993.


2. The Government of the People's Republic of China and the Interim Government of National Unity of the Republic of Liberia agree to exchange ambassadors and to provide the other's embassy with all the necessary assistance for the resumption of its performance.


3. The Government of the People's Republic of China supports Liberia's effort to achieve national reconciliation. Maintain domestic peace and restore its national economy. The Interim Government of National Unity of the Republic of Liberia recognizes that the Government of the People's Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the whole of China and that Taiwan is an inalienable part of the territory of the People's Republic of China. The Government of the People's Republic of China expresses its appreciation of the above mentioned position of the Interim Government of National Unity of the Republic of Liberia.
