Wang Yi: President Xi Jinping's Visit to UK Will Open "Golden Age" of China-UK Relations

On June 10 local time, Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Philip Hammond of the United Kingdom (UK) met the press in London after their talks. Wang Yi said that President Xi Jinping will pay a state visit to the UK in October upon invitation. This is the most important agenda in the China-UK relations this year, and will become a new milestone in the development of the bilateral relations. He said that his main purpose of visiting UK is to conduct strategic communication and political design with the UK and jointly launch comprehensive preparations for this historic visit.

Wang Yi said that with the joint efforts of both sides, the bilateral relations have overcome some difficulties and obstacles, maintained a sound development momentum and become increasingly mature and stable. Both sides should take the opportunity of President Xi Jinping's visit to open up new growth points for and provide new impetus to the bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership. To this end, the two countries should strengthen production capacity cooperation, realize combination of the strong and jointly develop the third-party market; deepen financial cooperation, jointly promote the internationalization process of RMB and strengthen coordination in the reform of global financial system; promote growth innovation for substantive outcomes and provide new vigor to bilateral economic and trade exchanges; and carry out cooperation in the field of global governance and development to jointly promote world peace and development. We appreciate UK's positive and open attitude towards cooperation with China and Prime Minister David Cameron's expression that the UK is willing to become China's firmest supporter in the western society. China is willing to respond to UK's positive willingness of creating a "golden age" for the China-UK relations and hopes that President Xi Jinping's state visit to the UK will open the "golden age".
