Wang Yi: China Always Upholds Impartial and Objective Position on Korean Peninsula Issue

On May 26, 2014, Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se of the Republic of Korea (ROK) in Seoul.

Wang Yi said that his visit to the ROK this time is a trip of friendship like visiting relatives, for discussing cooperation and the future. The China-ROK relationship is now at the best time and faced with new opportunities for development. Both sides should deepen the strategic cooperative partnership at a high starting point, open up new areas of, inject new impetus into and provide more solid guarantees for China-ROK cooperation on the basis of enhancing mutual trust.

Yun Byung-se said that the ROK and China enjoy political mutual trust, vigorous economic cooperation and increasing personnel exchanges, and keep good communication and coordination in international affairs. The ROK is willing to continue deepening cooperation with China to benefit the two peoples.

Wang Yi said that China always upholds an impartial and objective position on the Peninsula issue. China is committed to a peaceful solution to the Peninsula nuclear issue and to realizing denuclearization on the Peninsula. China opposes any words or deeds of any side that may cause tension. As the host country of the Six-Party Talks, China has played a constructive role and assumed its due responsibilities in addressing the Peninsula nuclear issue through dialogues. The resumption of the Six-Party Talks is consistent with the common interests of all sides concerned, and all sides concerned should make their own efforts to this end.

Yun Byung-se said that the Six-Party Talks is of great significance in addressing the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue. The ROK attaches high importance to China's role in the Six-Party Talks, and is willing to work with China to promote the resumption of the Six-Party Talks.
