Li Zhaoxing Meets with Some Foreign Ministers of Arab States

On September 13, 2004, Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing met respectively in Cairo with Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Mohammed ben Essa, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Interim Government of Iraq Hoshyar Zebari, Mauritanian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Mohamed Vall Ould Bellal, Head of the Political Department of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) Farouq Qaddumi and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Algeria Abdelaziz Belkhadem, who are in Cairo for the first session of the Ministerial Meeting of the Forum on Cooperation between China and Arab States.

Foreign ministers of China and Morocco expressed satisfaction with the development of the bilateral friendly relations, both indicating the willingness to enhance the friendship and cooperation between the two countries and boost South-South Cooperation. Essa expressed appreciation for the economic achievements of China and its active role in international affairs.

When meeting with Zebari, Li Zhaoxing said that relations between China and Iraq have entered a new development stage. China would like to develop the bilateral relations on the basis of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit. Zebari expressed his appreciation for the principled stance of the Chinese government on the Iraqi issue, thanked China for its support for the Interim Government of Iraq and welcomed Chinese enterprises to participate in the reconstruction of Iraq.

Li Zhaoxing and Bellal made positive remarks on the traditional friendship between China and Mauritania, vowing to make joint efforts to strengthen bilateral relations and engage in cooperation with the framework of the China-Arab and China-Africa Cooperation Forums.

Bellal stressed that the people of Mauritania are close friends of the Chinese people and are grateful to China for its precious assistance in the fields of economy, culture and health.

Li Zhaoxing said when meeting with Qaddumi that the government and people of China resolutely support the righteous cause of the Palestinian people and will continue developing the friendly and cooperative relations between China and Palestan. The two sides also exchanged views on the situation in the Middle East.

Li Zhaoxing and Belkhadem reviewed with pleasure the development process of the friendly relations between China and Algeria, and explored concrete measures to implement the consensus reached by leaders of the two countries to enrich the bilateral strategic cooperative relations and expand cooperation in economy, trade and energy resources.

All the five foreign ministers stressed during the meeting that they would continue adhering to the one-China policy and supporting China's lofty cause of national reunification.
