2015/02/14

On February 14, 2015, Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Abu Dhabi.

Wang Yi said though with different cultural backgrounds, China and the UAE have always respected and supported each other, and the bilateral relations have maintained a good momentum of development. China appreciates the UAE’s open and inclusive attitude to the outside world, and attaches importance to the UAE as a regional hub and distributing centre. China is willing to promote the China-UAE relationship from a strategic and long-term perspective, and constantly enrich the connotation of the China-UAE strategic cooperative partnership.

Wang Yi pointed out that the China-UAE relationship is facing important opportunities for development. China is accelerating the opening-up to the west and actively constructing the “One Belt One Road”, while the UAE is pursuing a “Look East” policy and diversifying its economy. China is willing to make a connection of development strategies with the UAE, and deepen cooperation for common development. China will carry out industrial cooperation with the UAE including high-speed rail, nuclear power and telecommunication, and establish a finance arrangement for bilateral practical cooperation. Hope the UAE will play a positive role in the negotiation of China-GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) Free Trade Area (FTA). The two sides can also strengthen coordination and cooperation in international and regional affairs.

Abdullah said the UAE and China enjoy a high-level bilateral relationship, fruitful cooperative results in all areas as well as extensive common language in international and regional affairs. The UAE is racing against time for development, and China’s assistance is very precious. Developing relations with China is always a priority of the UAE’s foreign policy. The UAE is willing to deepen the China-UAE all-dimensional cooperation, expand mutual investment and trade, and make a connection between its “Look East” policy and China’s initiative of “One Belt One Road” for win-win development. The UAE supports the GCC accelerating the FTA negotiation with China.
