On July 23, 2014, China's Special Envoy on the Middle East Issue Wu Sike gave a live interview to News Today featuring a special report on the Gaza issue at Al-Jazeera Television headquarters in Doha, the capital of Qatar, briefing on China's policies and stance and work on the Palestinian issue.

Wu Sike expressed that the constant escalation of Israel-Palestine military conflicts has caused heavy casualties, and the Chinese side is deeply grieved and concerned over this. The Chinese side condemns all the military actions resulting in civilian casualties and believes that the top priority now is to push relevant parties to cease fire as early as possible. The Chinese side welcomes and supports all diplomatic efforts that are conducive to ceasing fire and ending violence. The Chinese side urges that all relevant parties of Israel and Palestine to have in mind the people's safety and the overall situation of regional peace and stability, actively coordinate with and respond to the international community's proposal to cease fire, realize an immediate cease-fire and avoid any action that may lead to further escalation of tension of the situation. The relevant parties of the international community should have more sense of urgency and immediately take necessary measures to promote both sides to cease fire and prevent more civilian casualties.

Wu Sike expressed that the Palestinian issue is the core of the Middle East issue. The fundamental way out is to push forward the just and reasonable settlement of the Palestinian issue through peace talks. The cease-fire is the most important step at present, and the further and continuous efforts should be made on this basis, so as to promote the establishment of an independent Palestinian state that enjoys full sovereignty, with East Jerusalem as its capital and on the basis of the 1967 borders, realizing the "two-state solution", and to fundamentally eradicate the roots of armed conflicts and promote the Middle East for common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security.

On the same day, Special Envoy Wu Sike gave a joint interview to the Xinhua News Agency, China Central Television (CCTV), China Radio International (CRI), Phoenix Satellite Television and other media in Doha.
