External Security Commissioner of the Foreign Ministry Cheng Guoping Attends the High-level Meeting on Counter-Terrorism in the United Arab Emirates (UAE)

From December 18 to 19, the high-level international meeting on counter-terrorism, co-hosted by the government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the United Nations (UN) Office of Counter-Terrorism, was held in Abu Dhabi. External Security Commissioner of the Foreign Ministry Cheng Guoping led a delegation to the meeting. More than 200 people were present at the meeting, including representatives from more than 30 countries such as Russia, India, Egypt, and Ethiopia, delegates from international institutes including the European Union and the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, as well as civil society representatives.

All participants held discussions centering on the theme of Empowering Youth and Promoting Tolerance. Cheng Guoping expounded on the Chinese side's principled position on international counter-terrorism governance and combating extremism, and briefed on the Chinese side's effective counter-terrorism and de-radicalization measures and its efforts in international counter-terrorism cooperation. Cheng Guoping reiterated that in the international fight against terrorism, we should uphold multilateralism, respect the sovereignty of all countries, and reject double standards. We call on all parties to carry out counter-terrorism exchanges and cooperation on the basis of the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, support developing countries in enhancing counter-terrorism capacity building, and work together to eradicate the breeding ground for terrorism and extremism.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Cheng Guoping also held bilateral meetings respectively with Under-Secretary-General for UN Counter-Terrorism Office Vladimir Voronkov and Chairman of the International Center of Excellence for Countering Violent Extremism Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi of the UAE.
