Chinese Ambassador to ASEAN Tong Xiaoling Attends the Eighth CSCAP General Conference

On November 21, 2011, Chinese Ambassador to ASEAN Tong Xiaoling, at invitation, attended the eighth General Conference of the Council for Security Cooperation in the Asia Pacific (CSCAP). She delivered a keynote speech titled The 20th Anniversary of China-ASEAN Relations and East Asia Regional Cooperation and answered questions of journalists on China-ASEAN relations, East Asia regional cooperation framework and the US role in Asia Pacific.

CSCAP is one of the most important double-track mechanisms for security cooperation in Asia Pacific. The eighth CSCAP General Conference was held in Hanoi, Vietnam from November 21 to 22, 2011. More than 300 people, including government officials and scholars from 21 member countries, including China, ASEAN members, the US, Australia and New Zealand were present at the event. Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan attended and addressed the opening ceremony. Participating scholars and government officials discussed topics of the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula, water resource, non-proliferation and maritime security.
