President Xi Jinping Meets with Choe Ryong Hae, Special Envoy of Kim Jong Un

In the afternoon of May 24, 2013, Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Chinese President, met with Choe Ryong Hae, special envoy of First Secretary of the Workers' Party of DPRK (the Democratic People's Republic of Korea) Kim Jong Un and member of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the Workers' Party of Korea Central Committee, at the Great Hall of the People. Choe delivered an autograph letter from First Secretary Kim Jong Un to General Secretary Xi Jinping.

Xi Jinping expressed that China-DPRK friendship conforms to the common interests of the two countries as well as the two peoples. The CPC and the Chinese government will make joint efforts with the DPRK side to promote the development of the long-term, healthy and stable relations between the two countries.

Xi Jinping stressed that denuclearization and long-lasting peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula are common aspirations shared by all people in the region as well as a general trend. China has a very clear position concerning the issue that no matter how the situation changes, all the parties concerned should adhere to the objective of denuclearization, adhere to safeguarding the peace and stability on the Peninsula, and adhere to resolving the issue through dialogue and consultation. China hopes that all the parties concerned will remain calm and with restraint, push for the easing of the situation, restart the process of the six-party talks and make unremitting efforts for achieving denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula and safeguarding lasting peace and stability on the Peninsula and in Northeast Asia.

Choe noted that the DPRK side values very much its traditional friendship with China and will work with China to strengthen high-level exchanges and in-depth communication, so as to constantly consolidate and develop DPRK-China friendly relations. Choe said that the DPRK side sincerely wishes to develop economy and improve people's livelihood and that requires the creation of a peaceful external environment. The DPRK side is willing to work with the parties concerned to properly solve relevant issues through the six-party talks and other dialogues and consultation of various forms, so as to safeguard peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula. The DPRK is willing to take positive actions for it.

State Councilor Yang Jiechi and Wang Jiarui, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and Minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, were present.
