The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Organizes a Visit by Islamic Countries' Diplomatic Envoys to China to Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region

From August 1 to 4, 2022, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs organized a delegation of Islamic countries' diplomatic envoys to China to visit Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. Ambassadors, chargés d'affaires a.i. and diplomats from 30 Islamic countries including Algeria, Guinea-Bissau, Mauritania and Saudi Arabia joined the event. Deputy Director of the Standing Committee of the People's Congress of Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region Li Xuejun and Ambassador for China-Arab States Cooperation Forum Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Li Chen accompanied the visit.

Secretary of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Regional Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Ma Xingrui and Chairman of Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region Erkin Tuniyaz met with the delegation. Secretary Ma Xingrui said that since the 18th National Congress of the CPC, Xinjiang has fully and accurately carried out the plans and the policies of the CPC for the governance of Xinjiang in the new era. It has brought social stability and peace and happiness for the people. Xinjiang's achievements in prosperity, development and human rights protection cannot be erased by any disinformation or smearing, and Xinjiang's pace for prosperity and development will surely get faster and faster. We believe that the  envoys will have a deeper and more comprehensive understanding of Xinjiang through the visit. Hope  they will continue to play a bridging role and introduce a harmonious, stable, prosperous, happy and beautiful Xinjiang to the international community in a comprehensive, objective and fact-based manner. China and Islamic countries enjoy traditional friendship and close cooperation. As the core area of the Silk Road Economic Belt, Xinjiang is willing to promote local exchanges and cooperation with Islamic countries to better benefit the people.

The envoys highly praised the Chinese government's “People First” policy in Xinjiang. They expressed   that Xinjiang has made great efforts and achieved fruitful results in economic development, ethnic solidarity, ecological protection, scientific and technological innovation and other fields, and that freedom of religious belief and various rights of Muslims are duly guaranteed. What the delegation saw and heard along the way is completely different from what some Western media reported. Islamic countries are willing to give full play to complementary advantages with Xinjiang, expand practical cooperation and achieve mutual benefit and win-win results.

The delegation visited Kashgar, Aksu and Urumqi, going to mosques, the Xinjiang Islamic Scripture School, grassroots communities, ancient cities and old streets as well as museums. They got into Uyghur families, met face-to-face with religious people, and witnessed the harmonious coexistence of all ethnic groups in Xinjiang, the full protection of freedom of religious belief, and the breakthroughs in poverty alleviation and rural revitalization. They visited the Aksu's Kekeya Memorial Hall of Greening Project, the National Wetland Park, and the cotton planting fields in Awati County to learn about Xinjiang's ecological and environmental governance experience and green and clean development achievements. They went to Huafu Color Spinning Co. Ltd., Goldwind Science & Technology Co., Ltd., Urumqi International Land Port Area and other enterprises to look for opportunities for economic development and practical cooperation. They visited the theme exhibition of the Fight against Terrorism and Extremism in Xinjiang and the former Vocational Education and Training Center in Kashgar, and spoke highly of the legal and policy framework, practice and effectiveness of counter-terrorism and de-extremism in Xinjiang.
