China and India Hold the 23rd Meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on Border Affairs

On November 18, 2021, Director-General of the Department of Boundary and Ocean Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Hong Liang and Additional Secretary of the East Asia Division of the Ministry of External Affairs of India Naveen Srivastava co-chaired the 23rd Meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on China-India Border Affairs via video link. Representatives from departments related to diplomacy, national defense, and migration of both countries attended the meeting.

Both sides said that China and India will abide by the consensus reached at the meeting between Chinese and Indian foreign ministers in Dushanbe, continue to further ease the border situation, and work for an earlier shift from emergency response to routine control. The two sides had a candid and in-depth exchange of views on the situation in the China-India border areas, and agreed to consolidate the current outcomes of disengagement, strictly abide by the agreements and consensus reached between the two sides, and avoid recurrence of the situation on the ground. Both sides agreed to maintain dialogue and communication through diplomatic and military channels, actively prepare for the 14th round of the China-India Corps Commander Level Meeting, and make efforts to settle the remaining issues in the west section of the China-India boundary.
