Vice Foreign Minister Le Yucheng: China's Diplomacy Is Bravely Striving Forward amid World-wide Turmoil

2022-01-18 20:39

On January 18, 2022, Vice Foreign Minister Le Yucheng attended and delivered a speech at the opening ceremony of the Macro Situation Annual Forum hosted by the Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies of Renmin University of China and other organizers.

Le Yucheng said that faced by the challenges of the lasting pandemic, the accelerated centennial changes, the adverse trends of peace and development, and continuous tension of major-country relations, global governance, regional hotspot issues, etc., many countries are more or less threatened by risks in the fields of politics, economy, society, pandemic and foreign relations, and the whole world is in a tangle of turmoil. The last year began with the "Capitol Hill Takeover", followed by the U.S. Army's "desperate retreat" from Kabul and the "out-of-control" pandemic in many countries in the yearend, throwing the world economy to the edge of "the worst inflation" in 40 years. These are not only natural but also man-made disasters. Certain country tries to pass the buck or even try to trigger a "new Cold War", exposing the globe to potential unrest and danger.

Le Yucheng pointed out that the world's fundamental solution is, as proposed by President Xi Jinping, to work together to build a community with a shared future for mankind. This milestone approach is a definite answer to the epochal question "what happened to the world and what shall we do" and a characteristic flag under which China is leading the trend of the times and the progress of human civilization. President Xi Jinping pointed out at the Davos Forum that a community with a shared future for mankind shall be built by engaging in dialogue over confrontation, inclusiveness over exclusiveness, and opposing all forms of unilateralism, protectionism, hegemony and power politics. This further expansion of the approach to building a community with a shared future for mankind fully demonstrates President Xi Jinping's strong sense of responsibility for maintaining and promoting world peace and justice. The upcoming Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games will chime the theme "Together for a Shared Future" which will be a significant echo to the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.

Le Yucheng added that the year 2021 was marked by six diplomatic highlights of China. The first is that President Xi Jinping proposed the Global Development Initiative at the 76th United Nations General Assembly, which is another important contribution of China to achieving more robust, greener and more balanced global development and accelerating the implementation of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The second is that China and Russia celebrated the 20th anniversary of the China-Russia Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation and kicked off the new journey towards ever-lasting friendship and win-win cooperation. The third is that the presidents of China and the United States held the first virtual meeting and had a candid and in-depth communication on the fundamental, overarching and strategic issues concerning bilateral relations. The fourth is that Ms. Meng Wanzhou returned home safely. I believe that when she said to the camera "If faith has a color, it must be China red", the 1.4 billion Chinese people must be moved and feel proud. The fifth is that the China-Laos Railway was put into operation, turning Laos from a "land-locked" country to a "land-connected" one and setting another successful example of Belt and Road cooperation. The sixth is that Chinese vaccines supported global combat against the pandemic. In the year, China provided over two billion doses of COVID-19 vaccines to more than 120 countries and international organizations. To date, half of the vaccines administered across the globe are made in China.

Le Yucheng stressed that too many things are fabricated around the world, especially lies and slanders against China. A certain country seeks "bloc politics" in the name of "multilateralism", or fabricates "democracy versus authoritarianism" farces in disguise of "the preacher of democracy". A certain country spreads political virus and makes groundless accusations against China's pandemic response under the camouflage of origins tracing. It clamors "China's tough diplomacy" and even labels China "coercive diplomacy". It criticizes China for disrupting international order and attempting to overthrow the existing order, and claims to secure the so-called "rules-based international order", so on and so on. We are not tolerant toward the fabrications. We firmly fight back till they are exposed as frauds.

Le Yucheng stated that the world is in great changes and China has entered a new era that demands new thinking and great wisdom. Anti-fabrication is not only a task assigned to members of the diplomatic service but also a mission for experts and scholars. I hope you step out of your studies and make voice to the world to defend our Party, our country and our people, to demonstrate the strong character and sense of responsibility of Chinese scholars, and make greater contributions to promoting the communication and understanding between China and the world.
