On January 19, 2022, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Harbin Municipal Government and the Mexican Embassy in China held an online Theme Day event to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Mexico via video link, witnessing the completion of the ice sculpture of Mexico's Kukulkan Pyramid in the Harbin Ice and Snow World. This is the first event to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Mexico in 2022. Special Representative of the Chinese Government on Latin American Affairs Qiu Xiaoqi, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Harbin Municipal Committee and Vice Mayor of Harbin City Cheng Xiaoming, and Mexican Ambassador to China Jesus Seade attended and addressed the event.

Qiu Xiaoqi extended congratulations on the completion of the pyramid ice sculpture in Harbin, saying that under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, China-Mexico relations have been running at a high level. China is willing to work with Mexico to take the joint celebration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties as an opportunity to constantly elevate China-Mexico relations to new heights. Qiu Xiaoqi said that he wishes Mexican athletes great success in the Beijing Olympic Winter Games. Cheng Xiaoming said, Harbin is willing to take this ice and snow cooperation as a prologue to expand exchanges and cooperation with local governments in Mexico, and promote people-to-people ties. Seade said, February 14 of this year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Mexico and China, and this event kicks off the prelude to a series of celebrations. Mexico stands ready to further promote the cultural and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries and deepen the Mexico-China friendship.

The Kukulkan Pyramid is an embodiment of the architecture of the Maya civilization in Mexico. The ice sculpture covers an area of 440 square meters and is 9.5 meters high. It is the first ice sculpture building featuring Latin American theme culture launched by the Harbin Ice and Snow World.
