On February 14, Special Representative of the Chinese Government on Korean Peninsula Affairs Liu Xiaoming spoke with Russia Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov on the phone. They exchanged views about the situation on the Korean Peninsula.

They both believe that the important consensus reached between top leaders of China and Russia in their recent meeting is the guidance for deepening coordination and cooperation between the two countries on Korean Peninsula issues. They agreed that maintaining peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula is in the common interest of all relevant parties, and that the Peninsula issues should be solved by political and diplomatic efforts. Blindly imposing sanctions and pressure will only worsen the situation.

They called on the relevant parties to seriously consider the draft resolution jointly proposed by China and Russia on updating relevant UNSC Resolutions, to prevent further escalation of tension. They agreed to keep in close consultation and coordination to jointly maintain peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula, and promote the political settlement of the Peninsula issues.
